The deceased was born September 3, 1811, in Westmoreland
county, Pa. She was united in marriage to Rev. Isaac
Martin (many years an honored local preacher in the
Methodist church) October 21, 1828.
She was converted and united with the Methodist church
December 25, 1830, and for about sixty-four years she
lived in uninterrupted membership in the church, at all
times sustaining her religious experience and christian
integrity. She died as she had lived, in the triumphs of
faith.
In March, 1868, the family moved to the farm near Falls
City. For several years Mrs. Martin has been a widow. The
following children mourn her loss: Rev. Elza Martin, John
Martin, Colorado; Rev. Joseph Martin, University Place;
Sarah Laird, California; Jane Humphrey, Falls City;
Susannah Wilson, Iowa; Mary Rhine, Kansas; Lucinda Crook,
Falls City. All these were present except Mrs. Laird and
Mr. John Martin. A brother of Mrs. Martin, John Irwin, was
present.
The funeral services were held from the Methodist church
Tuesday morning, Rev. John Gallagher preaching the funeral
sermon. The remains were laid to rest in Steele's
cemetery.
