PASSES AWAY

Charles Johnson [sic] Laird, pioneer
of Klamath county passed away at his late home at Laird痴
Landing on Lower Klamath Lake this morning, following an
illness of three weeks. At the time of his passing
he was 70 years of age.
Mr. Laird was a native of Ia., born in
Fremont county in 1858.
For more than 36 years he had been a
resident of Klamath county [actually his home was in
Siskiyou County, CA], owning one of the largest and most
prosperous ranches in the county.
The remains are at the Towey Mortuary
on Pine avenue at Eighth street where friends may call.

A picturesque figure in Klamath
county history, Charles Johnson [sic] Laird, 70, passed
away Thursday morning after an illness of three weeks, at
his home at Laird痴 Landing on Lower Klamath lake.
Laird was the first pioneer stage driver in Klamath
county. He has resided at his ranch home at Laird痴
Landing since 1892.
Besides his wife he is survived by
Charles Clyde Laird of Walnut Creek, Calif.; Marion
Raymond Laird, who resides at the home ranch; Mrs.
Marguerite Dayton of Jackson, Calif.; and Lawrence [sic]
H. Laird of Berkeley, Calif. He was a member of the
Dorris lodge of Knights of Pythias.
Funeral services and interment will be
made at Medford at a date to be announced later upon the
arrival of his children.

Mr. Laird is survived by his wife, Catherine Caster Laird,
four children and three grandchildren. Funeral
services will be held at Conger Funeral Parlors on Sunday
at 1:330 [sic] p.m. Interment in Medford cemetery.

FIGHT
TO SAVE WOMAN FAILS

BERKELEY, Aug. 9.優espite valiant
efforts of fellow officers of her son in the Berkeley
Police Department, to save her life, Mrs. Elva Laird, 65,
resident of California for many years, died last night at
Mt. Zion Hospital, San Francisco, after an operation.
Mrs. Laird was given six transfusions
during the past three weeks both before and after her
operation for a stomach disorder. Members of the
Berkeley Police Department, where her son, Laurence H.
Laird, is lieutenant, offered their blood. Three
policemen were accepted for the transfusion operations,
namely Sergeant Charles H. Ipsen, Patrolman William E.
Baird and Willard E. Schmidt, identification clerk.
Born in Iowa, Mrs. Laird came west
when a young girl, making her home first in Medford, Ore.,
and later moving to Dorris. Besides her son, Lieut.
Laird, she is survived by another son, Clyde Laird,
constable of Walnut Creek, as well as by two other
children, Ray Laird, of Tule Lake, Calif., and Mrs.
Marguerite Dayton of the same place.
Funeral services will be conducted
Saturday afternoon at Medford, Ore.

ELVA LAIRD
PASSES IN S.F.

Mrs. Elva Caster Laird, well known
former resident of Jackson county and daughter of a
pioneer family, passed away in a San Francisco hospital
Tuesday evening, August 8, at the age of 65 years six
months.
She was born in Iowa, and came with
her parents to Jackson county in early life. Of
late, she resided at Dorris, Calif. Her husband
passed away in 1928.
She leaves four children, C. C. and L.
H. Laird of Berkeley, Calif, R. M. Laird and Mrs. Howard
Dayton of Dorris Calif, also six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held from the
Conger funeral parlors Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. W.
H. Baird will have charge of services and the interment
will be made in the Medford I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
