Mercer Dies At His McAllen Home
Elmer Mercer, 63 years old, 605 N.
Seventeenth street, died to-day at his residence. He
came to McAllen in July from Kansas. He is survived
by his wife and two sons, Paul E. of McAllen and Ralph E.
of Arkansas City, Kas., two brothers and four sisters.
The body will be sent by the Martin-Nelson funeral home
to Winfield, Kas. tonight for burial.

Mercer
Elmer Mercer, who spent most of his
life near Burden, died Friday at McAllen, Texas, after a
year’s illness. Mr. Mercer suffered a heart attack
about a year ago and never fully recovered. Last
fall Mr. and Mrs. Mercer went to Texas to visit relatives,
thinking probably the change would improve Mr. Mercer’s
health. The Mercer home was located four miles west
of Burden.
Funeral services will be
conducted at the Methodist church in Burden Monday at
2:30 p. m..
Survivors include: his wife;
two sons, Paul and Ralph.

Mrs.
Myrtle Mercer Dies Here Wednesday
Mrs. Myrtle Mercer of Burden died
at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Whitehall nursing home.
She had been in failing health for several years and had
lived at the home for about 18 months.
The family home was 2½ miles
west of Burden for many years and Mrs. Mercer taught
for many years in rural schools of Cowley county.
Mrs. Mercer was born May 17,
1875 at Falls City, Neb., the daughter of Isaac and Mary
Rhine. She was married Mar. 5, 1895* at Guthrie,
Okla., to Elmer Mercer, who died Dec. 9, 1938.
Two daughters, Jessie A. and Ruth, died in infancy and
a son Paul died following an accident. She was a
member of the Burden Methodist church.
Survivors are the 1 son, Ralph,
of Massillon, O.; 1 grandson and 3 great grandchildren;
1 brother, Richard Rhine, Winfield; and 1 sister, Mrs.
Mabel Eastman, McAllen, Tex.
Funeral arrangements will be
announced by Miles mortuary of Burden.
* Official records show the correct
marriage date to have been 11 Mar. 1896.
