The Wedding of Isaac Milton Martin and Juliet Ella Simmons

Oakland Tribune (Oakland, California), 9 February 1889, Sat., Page 8

MARTIN–SIMMONS

The residence of Captain and Mrs. E. P. Simmons was Tuesday afternoon the scene of a very quiet wedding.  Miss Juliet Simmons was united in marriage to Isaac M. Martin.  The wedding was, though a quiet affair, a very pleasant one, inasmuch as it served to reunite a number of the members of the family who had been separated for many years, and who all united in offering their congratulations to the happy couple and in the enjoyment of each other’s society.  The ceremony took place at 1 p. m., and was performed by the grandfather of the groom, Rev. Milton Morris, a retired Methodist clergyman.  The groom’s best man was Fred Simmons.  At the conclusion of the ceremony supper was served, and the young couple started on their wedding tour, which, ere its conclusion, will take them to Monterey and San Jose.  They will return and live in Oakland.  Mr. Martin is a clerk in the employ of A. Lozier, a grocer in this city.
Among those who were at the wedding were:  Captain and Mrs. E. P. Simmons, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Simmons of Calistoga, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Young of Livermore, Fred Simmons, Mr. and Mrs. J. Booth, Edward Booth, Frank Booth, Mrs. Brown, Vincent Morris, and Miss Gertrude Hodges.
A number of presents were testimonies of the esteem of a number of friends.  Among them were a handsome set of china, the gift of the groom to the bride; a handsome dress, to the bride from her brother, Fred Simmons; vase of flowers, Miss Gertrude Hodges; set silver knives, Jed Booth; set silver forks, Mr. and Mrs. Young; set china, Ned and Frank Booth; silver dessert spoons, Vincent Morris; silver tea spoons, John Morris; cake dish and silver castor, Mrs. Brown; Smyrna rug, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Simmons.
In addition to those mentioned was an elaborate log cabin quilt from the groom’s grandmother, a lady of nearly four score years.
